this is not a collection of thisisnotanexit records biggest releases from our biggest acts. thisisnotanexit is the most interesting record label in the world today. after three years of fighting this is our first report from the frontline put together with a cassette recorder and a notepad.

mr james bright has been described as one of the top >hip hop folk rockers< and big sounds from small spaces does everything to support that nomination.as a testimony to james talent, his long-time idol, shawn lee (ubiquity records), agreed to appear on the album after hearing some of the early tracks. shawn has provided sound tracks for several hollywood blockbusters, as well as writing dozens of pop-soul hits.

the highly anticipated collaboration between horace andy and alpha is finally released after years in the making matching horaces highly distinctive vocal style to corin dingleys signature production. 8 and a half minutes of rumbling basslines and skittering rhythms not dissimilar to some of the early rhythm & sound 10 inch dubplates.

this is my best album for sure, says todd. we cant be exactly sure on that one, all three albums from todd bodine have been great. forms however, is perhaps the most complex and mature album that the berlin producer and dj has accomplished to date. and its also out with us! todd has worked at full speed over the last six months to bring us this fine piece of work.

like hardly any other contemporary dj, catherine britton aka cassy is living at the interfaces between reduction and soul, jazzy deep house and geometrically structured techno. and it comes as no surprise, because being the english-born daughter of a caribbean father and an austrian mother, cassy started at a very early age to develop a sense for artistic aesthetics that draws its special magic from the >in-between< especially. being resident in berlin since 2003, she quickly gained a residence at the panorama bar, worked as a producer with such renowned musicians like ricardo villalobos, luciano, mathew jonson or swayzak and releases her music on labels such as perlon, ostgutton as well as on her own imprint cassy. simply devotion, cassys 2nd mix cd after the highly acclaimed panorama bar 01 compilation is a proof of her love for deep house of a different kind, which has - despite occasional flashes of souly vocals - nothing to do with garage house and handbag factor

the smallville collective has injected a real breath of fresh air into the house music scene. after launching their record shop in hamburg city in 2005 they invited the most sophisticated artists of the european and american underground scene- such as jus- ed, keith worthy, shinedoe, sleeparchive, omar s, baby ford & thomas melchior and many more to play at hamburgs love-spreading allnighters.

after a four-year break from the studio, laÕs finest practioners with their producer miles tackett return back with their actual album >dusk till dawn<. breakestra was formed by tackett in the late 80s and became one of the great live funk bands of their era. with their sound of gritty soul/jazz, party funk & breaks breakestra takes us to a journey into psychedelic soul, and west african farfisa stylings and instrumental cuts!

this summer beni will continue to reign the dancefloor supreme with a new monster slab of black plastic, maximus featuring vocals from the mighty sam sparro. who put the fun in acid-funk you ask? the answer is: beni did. a low-slung exercise in dark and dirty arpeggiated sleaze, maximus marries a sparse bubble-groove that creeps up behind you and licks your ear with a very purple vocal performance by sparro to devastating effect. the resulting track is something akin to kiss-era prince and friends dirty dancing at a toga party while ancient rome burns down around them. on the flipside beni and nicky night time give maximus a night-time re-dub rubdown, taking the track away from the creepy funk freak and towards a straighter slammer jammer, favouring blatant dancefloor manipulation over the subtle and the sexy. also featured (and included on the next kitsune maison 7 installment) is fringe element, which encapsulates the feeling of surfing on a shooting star like never before, with beni sitting proudly at the controls. an electronic orchestra of descending basslines, vocoder snippets, bleeps and acid squeaks, fringe element caps off another compelling chapter in benis lifelong voyage through dance. after the cover of his first ep my love sees you made by geneviíve gauckler, his new 12 is illustrated by french artist andre.

after the success of the compilation french do it... better (vol.1, vol.2 and vol.3) mixed by mathieu bouthier, serial records starts a new series: serial mix, gathering tracks from the french electro label serial records. concept is simple: twice a year, an artist from the label serial records selects his favourite tracks from the labels catalogue, and mixes them into a more-than-an-hour continuous track... for the biggest pleasure of house music fans! here we go with the first edition.

the fifteenth release on minimal wave, presented with original artwork on the cover, is stereos >somewhere in the night< cd. two of the tracks: somewhere in the night and no more first appeared on their 12inch releases in 1982 and 1983 respectively, and are now highly sought after. both tracks became cult dance floor hits, and received radio airplay in europe and the us throughout the 80s until now. the rest of the cd brings together the french bands best studio recordings from 1982-1985. the cd is presented in a digipak, includes a card insert with photos of the band, and all copies are hand-numbered. the cd includes 2 bonus tracks.

kings of jump is thò label of the hard generation in jump & tek. originally from the north of france but very popular in benelux as well. the labels tracks are played by all djs from the jump scene at all major events like bassleader, reverze, tomorrowland, decibel... the artists of the label are invited to play in big clubs (complex, la bush, lagoa, the oh, metroplis) & festivals (defqon, qbase, love parade...). 2 years after the foundation, the label represents all artists with a main influence in the jump scene, like a.o. chicago zone, ronald-v, gave, wordenz, e-max.
